Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...
…they’d stop being a slave, of course. From the video here (which auto-plays when I try to embed it).
Huh, so that must be what they were trying to say in Django Unchained. Hmmmm…maybe not…
I don’t own a gun. But if gun control were to happen in America, I would have no problem with it whatsoever. Gun control would probably do wonders here.
Wonder if Tarantino’s had a chance to re-think that one. He’s certainly been given the inspiration to do so.
As for the woman in the video, her opening proposition is an interesting one. “I’m not one of those people who admonishes any American for bringing up the issue of gun bans and the second amendment in the wake of a tragedy like this, I think it’s natural and normal.” Since I’m opposed to gun control, will I be the reasonable guy and at least concede that much?
Actually…no. I won’t concede even that much. It is not natural and not normal, when you look on a problem that is obviously hurtful and urgently demanding a solution of some kind, and your first reaction is “What can we ban to make this go away?” Or “What can we make it harder for everyone to do?” Or cutting through all the bull: “What freedoms can we take away?” When the expansion or preservation of freedom is viewed as the problem, and the curtailment of that freedom must be a prerequisite for any effective solution…or, in some cases, is the solution. That’s not normal and that’s not natural.
Other than that, though, she’s got it. The Second Amendment is not about hunting, and it isn’t about muskets. It’s about freedom.

“What Would Happen If You Gave a Gun to a Slave?”
Actually, we don’t have to. The salves where freed by the barrel of a gun.
Same with all the freedoms we enjoy today. They were gained by the gun. The Declaration of Independence would only have been a pipe dream with the very real understanding that men would have to fight, with a gun, and die for those freedoms.
Same, same with the enemies, historic and present day, of our freedoms. The barbarians are keep at the gate by the gun. Full stop.
And it’s beyond my comprehension why some folks who feel so comfortable banning guns are unable, or unwilling, to understand how millions of people where slaughtered because of the simple fact they were denied the ability to defend themselves with a gun. They delude themselves with thoughts that “it could never happen here”. Yup. Just like “they’ll never listen to my phone calls”, “I’ll never have to pay for somebody else’s (insert – healthcare, retirement, food, housing, etc.), and the myriad of other intrusions on our personal liberties we now find imposed on us. Tyranny can be imposed slowing as well as quickly.
Sure they want to obfuscate the debate with blathering about what constitutes a “militia”. While conveniently leaving out the most important part the founding fathers deliberately included – “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, (shall not be infringed“.) And why? Oh just – “being necessary to the security of a free State”. No big whoop.

The problem, of course, is your freedom. Not Tarantino’s. Quentin Tarantino really does live in a world where there’s no need for guns. Leni Riefenstahl didn’t need a gun either. And needless to say, if Quentin ever did need a gun, or the services of someone with a gun, he’d get it, whether guns are banned or not. Rules are for little people.
- Severian | 06/25/2013 @ 12:45If banning guns where to happen, wouldn’t the logical next step be to ban movies that show gun violence, Mr. Tarantino?
