Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...
Hat tip to T-Shirt Guy, who also sports this delightful cartoon that reminds me of a certain kerfufflage that was taking place between blogger friends Buck and Andy on these pages a few days back…
Heh! I’m going to be keeping this one awhile. Judging by what I’ve seen over the last five years, it should come in handy quite often.
Like Andy says: “[S]omeone always takes it there. Every time.”

Sigh…
I know how much fun it must be to have a “feud” going on here, but enough already. You and Andy continue to miss the point made by Bucknme that the damage of THE RULES is primarily done to women.
Human females are the most insanely competitive creatures on Earth – with each other. The true title of that book is The Rules For Gaming Men So You Can Get One That’ll Make Your Girl Friends Die Of Envy. If any “pick up artist” ever got a moment’s insight into the level of Scheme Crush And Kill that is the perpetual experience of women his Alpha Maleness would shrivel up in shame. Think you’re a dominant type? Ask a pretty girl sometime why she wanted to snare the football captain.
The whole business of skinny chicks vs fat chicks has its roots in female adolescence, when the thing that trumps your enemies becomes boys instead of Barbie Dolls. This has been so successfully projected onto men-as-perpetrators that apparently the whole culture now buys it. Men basically don’t give a shit, as perfectly expressed by Larry McMurtry when a male character in Somebody’s Darling complained of “the general incessancy of women.”
These young guys thinking they invented Game in response to The Rules are the exact equivalent to every teenager thinking he invented sex. Smart guys have always known that women need to be kept guessing, whatever they look like. Remember that vid I sent you of Pat Boone singing Technique? That song was written 50 years ago.

Actually, I think this is largely the point that Morgan was making in the first place. The fact the we are here, after a few other dust-ups, at this wicked little cartoon, is a testament to the proclivity of people to tell a writer what his point is because there is something else they would rather discuss.
It’s like Godwin’s law with Hefner instead of Hitler. Any discussion involving relationships between men and women will be swiftly directed to a declaration of the evil, unhealthy female body image presented by the media, and the tremendous pressure that it places on girls.

EXcellent point re Godwin – and of course what is consigned to oblivion is the fact that “the media” is aimed directly at women, and they’ve swallowed it whole. Anybody who’s had the opportunity to be around a pre-pubescent daughter will swiftly realize that the whole “OMG, nobody will ever care about me unless I’m tallnskinnynblonde” routine comes directly from the overwhelming desire for status among 11-year-old girls.
The major part of the overwhelming campaign to feminize the culture over the last 40 years has been a relentless effort to make boys and men feel guilty and responsible for the inbred neurosis of young girls.
- rob | 01/10/2010 @ 10:50Heh. I shall refrain from adding fuel to the fire except to say “I think you’re right, rob.” That’s been my experience, anyhoo.
And you’re right, too, Andy with your Godwin/Hef comparison. But perhaps my taste in feminine beauty only means I’m a product of my generation, no? I subscribed to Playboy in the WAY-back (the mid-60s), and our perceptions of beauty were indeed “different” at that point in time. As proof, I invite you to take a look at this retrospective. Former Happy Days, and all that.
