Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...
…over Barack Obama’s failure.
You never vetted, never examined him in any depth at all, even though the candidate had hardly any experience other than running for office. (Oh, yes, he was a “community organizer.” So was I, in a sense. You want to elect me?)
So now we are going to hear that Timothy Geithner or Press Secretary Gibbs or whoever should be thrown under the bus. No, sorry, it is the MSM that should be going under that now overused vehicle, committing hari-kari before the public does what it should – disenfranchise them completely. The election of Barack Obama was orchestrated by our mainstream media. They anointed him. They should suffer the consequences.

It’s not the media’s fault. It’s the fault of people who want to vote but don’t care enough to learn what they’re voting for (i.e. idiots). These idiots will continue to vote for the Democrats because… well, they’re idiots. The Democrats have already given hundreds of billions to liberal interest groups that will be recycled into campaign cash, ensuring they will keep office for the foreseeable future. In 2010, twenty of the 37 Senate seats up are held by Republicans. Of the 10 Senate races that look the closest, seven are held by Republicans.
I used up my optimism last year. I think it’s time to go Galt.
- JohnJ | 03/23/2009 @ 11:10Every comment you made, makes sense.
It’s the necessity involved in making that last one, that does not. How come people who’ve used up their optimism, always seem to have the impression things can get worse still, if they end up being the only ones to abandon it? What’s with this drive to make the condition contagious?
I’d join you in a heartbeat if the historic record provided some solid evidence that we can perpetuate this mistake. It simply doesn’t. After whacking ourselves in the head with the hammer, by the fourth or fifth blow we eventually want to stop. People grow up.
- mkfreeberg | 03/23/2009 @ 11:57Morgan, your optimism is a tonic, as always.
I admit to leaning towards johnj on this one. On the other hand, I was convinced in the ’60s that the glorification of the Wisdom of Youth and Rocknroll meant the end of civilization, and I must have been wrong about that.
Wasn’t I?
- rob | 03/23/2009 @ 13:34The historic record: FDR, Johnson, Carter, Clinton, and now Obama. The historical record indicates that the federal government grows every decade since the 17th amendment despite who is in charge, just as Thomas Jefferson warned. The only way “the people” will ever learn is if they are, in Franklin’s words, thrown upon their own resources. Instead of securing their freedom against their wishes, let them actually live with the socialism they want while we confine ourselves to doing what we know is right, including offering help to our friends and those who genuinely want it.
They’ll learn only when they don’t have us to blame anymore. Which is why I also noted how we will be blamed for everything whether we have any power or not, because we are the enemy they hate. Their hatred does not permit them the luxury of reason, which they despise anyways. They believe that we are the cause of all their problems, and not their own ideas, beliefs, or choices, which they know to have no fault.
If you really feel like you can make a difference, don’t let me persuade you to stop trying. But I do want you to make that decision with as much information as possible. Unlike self-styled liberals, I don’t want to force anyone to make a decision with which they disagree. Unlike some self-styled libertarians, I do want to help people make the best choice for themselves of which they are capable.
Things can get worse, and they will, eventually. Maybe not this year or the next, but soon. Their hatred of our freedom will not end. Their intolerance for our beliefs will grow.
The historical record is clear. There’s this and this and this and a long history of people being controlled by fear and hate to destroy those who think differently. If I thought Americans were, in the aggregate, capable of listening to reason, I would argue for that. But my experience leads me to believe otherwise.
- JohnJ | 03/23/2009 @ 14:03Okay, but your pessimism is still rooted in a presumption that nobody’s opposed to this. Or that the people like you and me who are opposed, won’t be speaking out, making people around us think about what’s being done. Or that we somehow can’t; or that if we do, there’s some unseen force making sure we aren’t heard. Furthermore, you presume the Soros propaganda machine continues to chug away at high throttle. Said machine was already running pedal-to-the-metal in ’04…it wasn’t good enough…
Is that what it takes for the other side to prevail? Hundreds of millions of dollars spent telling people what to think, a press in such a state of schoolgirl puppy-love that they decide to forcefully eject any pretense at honest journalism…and no effective voiced dissent? Words actually invented by Tina Fey and inserted into Sarah Palin’s mouth, as if she said then, when she didn’t?
Such a rickety scaffolding for victory! Why am I supposed to share your pessimism, now, when I’d have so much more pessimism if I were on the other side?
- mkfreeberg | 03/23/2009 @ 15:38Well, I’ve made my case and my predictions. Time will tell. Just keep your eyes open and your ear to the ground, my friend. We all have to pursue the path we believe to be right.
