Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...

I was amazed. I don’t agree with some things, but that disagreement is a matter of degree, not principle. I can stand under this banner with no effort or discomfort.

Hmmm. I wonder who that was aimed at? 😉
OK. I read the whole thing… and your preamble raised my hackles, right off the bat. Nearly (but not quite) enough to make me stop reading right there. And I think you intended it to be so. A move to the center is a wise strategy for the Republican party, as most Americans tend to be IN the center, rather than on the fringe of either side. The Republicans have opted for pragmatism, in other words. This is not a bad idea for a party whose brand is in the frickin’ dumps, for whatever reason.
As for omissions… I noted only one, right off the top of my head. I’d add “Drugs,” as in currently illegal drugs, proscribed substances, etc. to this section:
Smoking and Helmet Laws
Smoking is a bad idea, and riding a motorcycle without a helmet is a bad idea.
The War on (Some) Drugs, as Vanderleun puts it, is a colossal waste of money, time, and most any other resource one can name… in addition to being in direct contravention to the supposed conservative value of personal responsibility, “small” government, and Federalism. I could go on, but I won’t. Legalize them, tax the Hell out of ’em, and make it illegal for children to possess and/or use… just like alcohol, in other words.
And have the US gub’mint buy Afghanistan’s entire opium poppy crop, while you’re at it. Sell a small percentage of the raw opium to legitimate pharmaceutical companies and burn the rest. But stop the frickin’ “eradication” madness… coz all you’re doing is pissing off farmers who have little or no recourse and giving aid and comfort to the Taliban, who are using the money from opium to finance their insurgency. Talk about frickin’ stupid policies… (/rant)

So I’m looking over the preamble trying to see what provides angst. I think I see. You won’t let me utter an unkind word against His Maverickness, is that it. Well, he’s joined at the hip with Soros, so let the chips fall where they may. Georgie is out there bitchin’ up a storm about the other George dismantling democracy from 1600 Pennsylvania — meanwhile, the Hungarian has used his mighty checkbook to buy up both candidates and we’re just supposed to gulp down this Hungarian delight and say “mmm, my compliments to the chef may I please have seconds?”
As for legalizing drugs — the points are good ones. I don’t see or hear of anyone offering counterpoints, and I’m certainly willing to observe a debate about such a plank. I don’t really have a dog in the hunt there. Except, having read the platform, you know my position on taxing things just for the purpose of socking it to people. To me, it’s the American WayTM to find a place to put the money before you collect it — or leave it untaxed. Whatever it is. Our government should be striving, first & foremost, to stay out of the way of everybody else.

Which is why I put the smiley in there. I haven’t seen all that many grammar police hereabouts, actually… and danged few take me to task, even though I wish they would. I’m appalled at my typos, and I always manage to find more than a few after I put up a post.
McCain and Soros joined at the hip? Did I miss something, somewhere? Or are you invoking the “stopped clock: right twice a day” analogy? As for not saying anything bad about OUR candidate… unless you wanna go vote Libertarian or some other “let me throw away my vote” candidate… I don’t agree with him on a LOT of stuff, but he is head and shoulders above The Obamanon. And Morgan… you KNOW how our system works. Third-party candidates have the proverbial snowball’s chance in you-know-where at winning ANY sort of national election. It just ain’t gonna happen. That’s a GOOD Thing: think “Italy.” Or La France. Or even Britain.
But, it’s your vote, to do with as you please. Such is the beauty of our system.
