Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...
I’m disappointed. My excuse is that the 12th floor hotel window was un-open-able…didn’t seem like a problem at the time. Had I known my toy camera would so inadequately cope with the challenges, I’d have gotten off my fat ass and snapped a few pictures outside.
The image does not do justice to what was taking place. Desert storm approaching — twilight. Beautiful stuff.
We just got done meeting Kidzmom halfway between her place and ours, dropping off the boy for summer vacation after a long, harrowing school year. Final verdict — boy’s brain is turned ON. Hooray. He assures us it’ll still be that way at the end of summer. But you know how twelve-year-old boys are.
As our reward & celebration to him and to recognize a job well done, we saw the new Star Trek film, which you’ve probably seen by now. That review is for another post, I think.
Better pics tomorrow. Apologies again. Maybe we need to put a real camera on my birthday list. Giving it some serious thought…

Having grown up in the ‘great southwest’ I know what you mean. I took my wife home to meet the parents when we were still dating and she couldn’t get over all the colors she saw.
Now comes the bragging part (forgive me). If you go to her site http://www.dawn-patrol.net and look at her paintings, on page three there is one called “view from the back porch” it’s none of my favorites and captures the same feeling you have in your photo I think.
- Instinct | 06/01/2009 @ 12:34A good camera is a joy to own… and need not be all that pricey. A couple of few years ago (four, actually) I bought a Canon G5, which is fully controllable (i.e., you can manually set f-stop and exposure, ASA, all that good stuff) and STILL gets a lot of use. Canon is up to the G10 now and dpreview wasn’t all that impressed, saying a low-end dSLR or a Panasonic are probably better choices. But dSLRs are bulky things, compacts aren’t. The old saying that “the best camera is the one you have with you” applies.
As for 12-year olds… I know from whence you speak, LOL! I also know “things” get a whole helluva lot more “sporty” as time moves on. Get ready to get incredibly stupid, Morgan. It’ll happen. The good news is you get smarter after a few years, though. 😉
- bpenni | 06/01/2009 @ 14:01I appreciate the shot all the same. It’s the weather geek in me. Plus I got a thing for Mountains and Deserts.
My baby is a Pentax *ist DL. I can do about anything I want with it, plus if I swung it by the strap it’d make a lethal weapon. Don’t tell your California Legislators.
I’ve had several digital cameras along the way, and I do still keep a little Nikon Coolpix for a pocket camera for when I’m going somewhere that I think the real camera would be in the way.
The *ist DS is slightly nicer from what I understand. And the next model past that (K100D) had some anti-shake technology. I get mixed reviews from people on how well that works… but I’d like to try it!
If you ever want to talk cameras, we can talk off line.
And … “Instinct”… your wife does nice work!
