Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...
…at his place. Christina Aguilera’s warbling has not earned her any kind remarks from any direction whatsoever, so far as I can tell, and she cannot look to Phil for any sympathy.
Just an unfortunate decision all-around. And screwing up the lyrics, of course, didn’t help much.
I’m cautiously optimistic: We may have just witnessed the final chapter on the “diva-warbling.”

One can hope. I think it was the old Star Search show where I first noticed this tendency to perform a series of ascending and descending scales on nearly every note. I suppose such showing off was useful in the context of demonstrating range in trying to win a singing competition but it’s become more than annoying as a style in and of itself. There is no beauty or emotion in such “warbling”, just a pathetic cry of “look at me!”.
- westsoundmodern | 02/07/2011 @ 09:07Hey, I loved the skirt & jacket.
- philmon | 02/07/2011 @ 09:27I always have to put these things on mute for that very reason. I had no idea she flubbed the words until I heard about it on the radio this morning (and I still don’t know which specific part she messed up).
I like to think of myself as a somewhat nuanced fellow, but nothing brings out my snarling, atavistic patriotism like somebody going diva on the national anthem. It’s the frickin’ national anthem! If I had my way it would never be sung by anyone other than a crowd at full throat — Super Bowls and whatnot can make due with an instrumental, since they can’t ever seem to find anyone who sings it respectfully.
- Severian | 02/07/2011 @ 14:56PS I’ve seen Christina Aguilera up close and personal. Cute face, but she’s about 4’10” and built like a 10 year old boy who’s wearing an extra-padded training bra for some reason. This taught me much about the lies the camera tells.
- Severian | 02/07/2011 @ 15:01A Fark commenter came up with the best term for the tendency to warble unnecessarily.
Urban Yodeling: A tendency to add pitch inflections or warble to songs where such embellishment is neither required, nor tasteful.
I wholeheartedly agree, and feel this term should be adopted nationwide.
- Pepster | 02/07/2011 @ 19:04Good one. Guy LIKE!!!! (MXC)
- philmon | 02/07/2011 @ 19:38At least she didn’t do it with malice like Rosanne did; it seems to me that she genuinely messed-up and that is understandable (to a point), for that I don’t blame her, but the organizer who didn’t press her to practice more (either by contract, or by real rehearsing).
Super Bowl organizers should really get their act together and start acting professionally, when hiring and preparing entertainment for the game.
