Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...
1. Rules that put unproductive people in charge of how productive people may do their producing.
2. Shallow egotists seeking broad dictatorial powers grounded on narrow fields of interest & understanding.
3. The right to “free speech” held sacrosanct for the benefit of “protesters” who don’t actually have anything to say.
4. The balkanization that naturally results from people relying on many different spoken & written languages.
5. Youth-worship, Weaponized Arrested Development (WAD) and the abnegation of maturity.
6. The targeting of identifiable classes for special obligations, special protections and/or special privileges.
7. The erasing of history from the public’s consciousness.

- Sorta Blogless Sunday Pinup – Easter Edition » Pirate's Cove | 04/01/2018 @ 06:35It’s a great list. Might I suggest one small edit? I would slightly alter #3 to read ” …held sacrosanct ONLY for the benefit of …” The rest of us are constantly being told that “hate speech is not free speech” and getting the Heckler’s Veto treatment everywhere in the social discourse.
- nightfly | 04/12/2018 @ 13:20This is by far the most talked-about bullet in the list. I’m of the opinion it’s the most misunderstood. People seem to think if we start restricting what “free speech” means, we’re placing limits on free speech itself.
I submit it is the opposite that is true. Your edit, while accurate, is a natural consequence of implementing the bullet in real life the way it currently reads. “Let them go ahead and block that bridge, it’s free speech!” “Really, what are they saying?” “Dunno.” Okay then. We’re going through the motions of honoring and protecting “free speech” but that’s not really what we’re honoring/protecting, what we’re honoring/protecting is more like disruption.
THEREFORE. It’s only natural that when we see something that really is speech…well, we run into your concern. Our attitude becomes one of “Yes of course we have to protect free speech but we have to stamp out X wherever we find it until it isn’t around anymore.” So of course James Damore can and should be fired from Google. But they’re a private company they can do as they like! Oh okay…so this baker who doesn’t want to bake a gay wedding cake…Well that’s different! Public accommodation, Civil Rights Act, etc…oh okay.
Government makes laws telling us to approve of private personal things, or else shut up. Mr. Damore’s company can fire him for his opinion, and it’s on his dumb head for not keeping his mouth shut. We think of this as a “free society” that “honors free speech” when it isn’t doing any such thing…it’s really just like any other system of laws, or system of rights, or system of rights and laws. It all depends on accurate definitions of things. “Speech,” in context of “freedom of,” is expression of ideas. Evaluating “Don’t say that or else I’ll break your face,” in the most literal sense, like we’re Asperger’s cases or something, we find it qualifies as speech and therefore should be protected. But if we’re capable of seeing meaning in things and applying definitions, we can recognize that it’s a bullying maneuver just like blocking a bridge, existing for no reason other than to restrict the flow of information and ideas. “Protecting” it is, therefore, contrary to the original meaning and a failure to stick to our knitting. The right attitude to have about it is, if your idea is worthy of expression, find a way to express it without stopping people from getting to work, and if you can’t do that then maybe you haven’t got anything to say. Now get TF out of my way.
