Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...
Especially this time of year. I suppose a good blogger wouldn’t say such a thing. But when the weather gets nice out and there’s a smell of coconut oil mixed with bug repellant mixed with human sweat mixed with pool water, and the site traffic just completely plummets into the depths and the blog goes into suspended animation, I just think “Yeah, baby…this is what it’s all about.” I couldn’t give a rip if people stop by to read The Blog That Nobody Reads. If people are going out and having fun with their kids and grandkids, maybe even getting some scraped knees and elbows and blisters on their hands, it’s all good in my world.
Think of it as my right-wing “bitter clinger” version of Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign. Get up off your asses, quit reading blogs and go have fun with your kids!
Artwork by blogger friend Phil, who’s going to be a stranger to the keyboard in the near future. And that’s a good thing. Not that we look forward to his absences or anything…it’s just…you know. Stand in front of your full-length mirror in your underwear sometime and tell me what you’re built to do. Sitting in front of a computer on your ass? Eh, not even close. You’re built to run, to breathe, to give your ol’ ticker a workout and to sunbathe. And if my humble blog is scoring zero hits in a week, that’s just fine I’m happy as a clam.
Have fun with the family, and maybe post some pics if you feel so inclined. I’d like that.
SNUL, by the way, is our invention…Phil is just doing us a favor and paying us a compliment, with his considerable graphic talents. The acronym was first mentioned over here.
Now get out there and SNUL your balls off, fellow bloggers. Or until your nipples pop out, as the case may be. Sunscreen. Bug repellant. Sweat. Pictures. Family, sweat, pool water, charcoal, and most important make sure you bring back some stories to tell. And get the hell away from the keyboard! It’s a weekend, what in the world is the matter with you??

Does driving cattle count? Because that’s what I’ll be spending my Saturday doing.
- cylarz | 06/10/2011 @ 23:19Weekend? EVERY day’s the weekend here. Life is good, in other words. 😉
- bpenni | 06/11/2011 @ 11:04Pffft! Retired people. Well, I won’t say anything because I hope to be one someday.
The SNUL Snail graphic … I think I’ll update that with more organic lettering. It was something I slapped up right before I went to bed, and the “fit text to line” thing didn’t work as well as I’d hoped.
Plus it really clashes with the drawing.
And yes, I realize SNUL means “Sorry No Updates Lately”, and that I was using it in the future tense. In my head it has grown to mean something a little bigger, like a “Gone Fishin'” sign, as Morgan correctly interpreted my use of it there. Plus over the last few years I’ve used it as a little “egging on” of Morgan because he’s on record, as the originator — of not liking SNUL posts. And it looks like he “gets it”.
I also do it because I’d like people to know that the absence will be temporary … a bit of a Simple Minds schtick … “Don’t You Forget About Me“. Because let’s face it…. while the purpose of my blog is not to garner attention, particularly — or to have people hang on to my every word, I do appreciate the people who take time out to drop by and see what I have to say. Every hit on the statcounter has a tiny element of flattery to me … and I’m honest enough to say, “Yay. Somebody took a gander at what I have to say.”
A little, y’all come back now, he’ah?
- philmon | 06/13/2011 @ 09:14Yup, you got it.
I like the parts of SNUL that have to do with r-and-r. I loathe and detest the parts of SNUL that have to do with feelings of obligation…”Oh my gosh, I haven’t updated my blog in like forever, what will my readers read? How can they ever forgive me?”
Like they/we are the barnyard livestock in Animal Farm that Farmer Jones forgot to feed, and are getting set to revolt or something. Sheesh.
You’ll see, at the time I invented the word, there’s a snapshot of all Internet content in the form of a pie chart. I meant it as an exaggeration parody joke sort of a thing. But these years later, it seems like an accurate snapshot, to me. A great big slice of the pie is nuthin’ but SNUL, with much of what remains composed of porn and “Bush is an idiot.” Yup. Mostly accurate. And ridiculous.
- mkfreeberg | 06/13/2011 @ 09:21Oh, I forgot … I was going to show you where I was. A rare, personal post (although properly sanitized for names, etc) on my political blog.
What’s really bad is that I have been realy bad about updating my personal blog since I got back into the political rants so heavily … and I use that as much for a record for my own recollections as for anything else. I really need to get back on it.
- philmon | 06/13/2011 @ 10:03[…] I like the acronym AND the sentiment! […]
