Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...
Yet another fascinating discussion sprouts underneath Cassy’s post about folks who are about her age (b. 1984), and her disappointment in them. I was particularly interested in the comment from Mat:
Actually Cassy,
Most of the Millenials are morons and they’re pretty much indefensible. Yes there are a few here and there like yourself who think for themselves, but from where I’m sitting at my university job, I’m just seeing a bunch of twits living in some kind of friggin’ dreamland. Cripes, one of my student workers told me the other day that he wasn’t worried about the unemployment because there would be plenty of “guvmint programs” he can work for when he graduated. Yeah kid, good luck with that one. Another one said she wouldn’t mind paying higher taxes, “if it would help me and other people out.” Yeah kid, try making that statement when you’re losing 35-40% of your check to taxes while paying for a car, house and other things. I’m not making this crap up (I sincerely wish I was).
Also bear in mind that the Millenials are the first generation to get indoctrinated by leftist ideals from the cradle (even the GenXers didn’t have that). It could easily swing to the point where the Millenials, instead of going more conservative, will just throw a temper tantrum and cry out for more “guvmint programs” to help them out. Personally, I think the latter will happen.
Someone please tell me he’s wrong.

Tell me what the prevailing sentiments that occupy the minds of your young peoples, and I will tell you what is to be the character of the next generation–Burke

He isn’t. I work as an engineer and we have a great group of co-ops and interns working here. All of them are bright and well spoken and almost without exception, they are all leftist liberals. One of them argued in favor of voting for Barry because he figured that “free health care” would then be right around the corner. Economics theory, empirical evidence? These had no effect on him. And after eight months of this country going into the crapper, with a low functioning moron as Veep, he still thinks that Team Obama is wonderful. It boggles my mind.
That’s what bothers me most about this group: reality does not enter into their mental calculus. Considering that our job (engineering) deals pretty much with facts and logic, I’m dumbfounded at the disconnect. And you know what’s worst? The fact that this group is brighter and more logical than the average college student.
God help us all.
- Physics Geek | 10/06/2009 @ 12:14Please ban Physics Geek Morgan, if I read anymore of what he just said I’m seriously gonn’a become a raging alcoholic. Arrrrggggghhhhh!!!!!
- tim | 10/06/2009 @ 14:00I would love to be able to tell you that.
All we can do is try to stem the tide by stopping echoes when we run across them or they run across us.
I really, really, REALLY try to stay away from politics on facebook, but last night I saw a post from an acquaintance about whether or not Limbaugh, Beck, and Hannity ought to be tried and jailed for treason.
The acquaintance had voted “yes”. Others chimed in with BushHitlerCheneyHalliburton sputtering, and I couldn’t stay out.
I simply stated that fortunately we still live in a country where people can’t be thrown in jail for disagreeing with you and expressing their opinions. At least not yet, anyway.
I know it’s not much, but it lets them know that not everybody in their circle agrees with them, and they may think twice down the road if this happens often enough … before throwing out another leftist word bomb to get another smug fix from the expected universal kudos that they crave.

Ah, just become a quiet alcoholic, Small-Tee. It’s just as effective yet doesn’t annoy the neighbors. 😉
- bpenni | 10/07/2009 @ 19:50Buck. Right you are.
You and I. Much in common.
That’s why I stay engaged in this politics thing. It gives me an(other) excuse to drink. 😉
