Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...
Chris Currey begins his tale thusly…
I am an old Republican. I am religious, yet not a fanatic. I am a free-marketer; yet, I believe in the role of the government as a fair evenhanded referee.
Stopped reading. What’s the fucking point?
Leaving the rest up to The Other McCain, who is at least getting some laughs out of it.
You belong in the purge-bowl, pal. With a courtesy-flush. You’re as much an “old Republican” as Fidel.
Purge them. Wipe out any trace. Deport them on boxcars. Tar and feather them. “Fair evenhanded referee”…feh. I used to have some healthy curiosity about whether these people were sociopathic liars, or whether they just completely missed the point altogether. I do not have this curiosity anymore, it’s done left me.
It is an attack, again, on definitions of things. A failure to comprehend basic cause-and-effect. Here, one last time let us treat the mindset as something on the up-and-up: What, specifically, is it about the government that makes the people within it so fair and evenhanded? What makes them so noble and so wise that they, many of whom have never worked a day in their lives, can approach the President or the CEO of Acme Widget Co. who may have been producing widgets for fifty years or more as-man-and-boy…and tell him the right way to make widgets?
But I’m done with that. This is not on the up-and-up. This is a liberal. A hardcore egg-sucking dog of a liberal wearing a disguise, and it’s a crappy disguise at that. Begone with you, and everyone like you, and take your hammer and sickle with you.

Oh, I get it! A referee!
Now what were you saying? 😉
- philmon | 04/06/2010 @ 10:06Reminds me a recent chat I had with a women at the local watering hole. She remarked about the “tax credit” that is helping the housing market hum along. I remarked that giving people money, other peoples money, wasn’t a “tax credit” but rather a subsidy, a handout not unlike welfare. While tax credits are taking less taxes than normal. She tried to tell me she knew how tax credits worked. I told her I didn’t think she did.
But she was a Republican…
At least the beer was good.

You should have read the whole thing, coz you’ve pretty much MADE his point with this post. I found some common ground with Mr. Currey. Not a lot, just some. But the “true conservatives” and their peculiar brand of intolerance for views other than their own, however slightly they may deviate from the approved orthodoxy, have shrank the party. I’m about to leave, too… all that’s stopping me is “Independents” can’t vote in Texas primaries, or at least that used to be the case. But I’ve about had it with the GOP and all those damned “true conservatives.” A pox on their houses. Your mileage obviously varies.
- bpenni | 04/06/2010 @ 14:19But he is an old Republican, at least a certain breed of old Republican. Not a breed I can particularly bring myself to miss, to be honest. A two-time Clinton voter? And proud of it? Dude. Spare me the drama and just leave.

You didn’t answer my question. What makes people fair, sober, wise, neutral referees, just because they happen to be on the government payroll? What devices do we have in place to ensure they only seize a limited amount of power?
Aren’t referees supposed to have the final word? What in the world is centrist about that?
Would you rather have Jack Welch making a decision about something you want to turn out right…or Bill Gates…or Carly Fiorina or Meg Whitman…or Barbara Freakin’ Boxer?
There’s just no getting around it, m’friend. That was an exceptionally foolish thing for him to say. Not that I think it was an outburst, from his other comments it seems he really does vote this way. Recommend you check out Thomas Sowell, A Conflict of Visions, 1987…it’s exactly the same mistake the French made when they put Napoleon in charge. And that our own country made eighteen months ago. This “Magical Wonderful Wise Superhumans Running Everything” scheme is for the birds. Anyone who still embraces it, shouldn’t be called a conservative because if they are, the word loses all meaning.
- mkfreeberg | 04/06/2010 @ 16:20OT, but I read at your place Young Buck is stateside again. Thanks to him for his service, and welcome home.
- mkfreeberg | 04/06/2010 @ 16:24Thanks to him for his service, and welcome home.
Yup. He flies into Lubbock this afternoon; there WILL be beer and cigars aplenty this evening. Thanks for your thanks! 🙂
- bpenni | 04/07/2010 @ 10:09Morgan, why didn’t you just say, “With conservatives like these, who needs liberals?” Same thing, really.
Amazing how far some people will go in their zeal to defend statist ideas, then turn around and insist I respect their conservative credentials. I believe Reagan nailed it when he said that there’s really no such thing as a left or a right, just an up or a down.
