The two visions are put alongside and contrasted with each other, so everyone can see the differences. Professor Mondo and The Major (Ret.) duke it out.

It’s educational. Wish my Social Studies teachers put on something like this. Like, way back, in sixth or seventh grade.

See, there’s a problem when these things are supposed to be kept civil: The left’s side of the argument presumes there is something about government work that makes one incorruptible, and/or wiser than others. They don’t come out and say it. But their entire vision is dependent on it. They’re very seldom compelled to come out and say what makes it that way. One gets the idea that their evidence comes down to: Government workers remind them of Mulder and Scully on the X-Files, who everone knows dress better and speak more articulately than those inbred rednecks they go out to see out in the boonies, with their dilapidated old houses with their creaking picket fence gates, and their glowing monsters locked up in the tool sheds, and their hick accents…

That, and government work does not involve that evil profit stuff. And that’s a breakdown in the argument right there. Government work might not involve profit, per se, but in many cases it involves a pension plan unlike anything you can get in the private sector. So if that’s the justification, the “government knows better” types are looking for an altruistic money-don’t-matter attitude, in a place where they’re less likely to find it than most other places.

So, which side has my sympathies, should be completely obvious as if it were ever in question in the first place. Now, on with the show.

You’ll find no clearer illustration of the Marxoid rot at the heart of our culture than this: The statement “I would like to earn the money to buy myself a comfortable lifestyle” will get you thrown out of most cocktail parties, and outright blackballed from several large, important professions.

Time was, the desire to earn enough to live comfortably was called “The American Dream” and all those bright young idealists were complaining that not enough people had the tools to access it — college education and so forth. I think the problem was, that generation of bright young idealists went to college themselves, became lawyers, and — because they worked for “social justice” — never realized that their $300K/year was….drumroll please…. profit. And a new generation of bright young idealists is born, because hey, they can afford Andover Prep and Harvard and Yale Law….. somehow.

Which is the case with leftists in general, no? Their salaries aren’t ridiculous and exploitative, no matter how much they make vs. the company janitor — it’s a “social justice dividend” or something, in the same way that what George Soros does isn’t “trading” or “investment” or “Wall Street” (and he’s certainly not one of “the rich”); he receives a “compassion bonus” or a “progressivism reallocation.” It’s never among their gripes that Oprah Winfrey makes too much money, say, or Sean Penn isn’t paying his fair share, or that North Face Apparel makes a profit (and they’d never complain about the CEO’s bonus). Romney’s taxes, charitable donations, etc. are exactly the same as Dear Leader’s, but only Romney is the heartless s.o.b. And, of course, a tenured professor makes nearly $100K on average, while the 2102 poverty threshold for a family of eight is $38,890. By progressive math, each Professyr of Wymyn’s Studies has the blood of about 20 people on her hands…. except not, because she cares so everfuckinmuch about those poor people she’s taking the food from.

In short, only “corporations” and “conservatives” — which they regard as the same thing — make “profits,” only they are “the rich,” only they must make “sacrifices” and pay “their fair share.”

Add to this their weird “party like it’s 1899” attitude — they honestly seem to believe they spend their days facing down the Pinkertons at Homestead — and their complete domination of academia, law, and the media, and all of a sudden you’ve got millionaires lecturing us $30K a year customer service cube rats about how we’re heartless assholes for wanting to keep enough of our own goddamned money to buy a six pack at the end of the month.

Weird.
