Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...
The eighty-eighth award for the Best Sentence I’ve Heard Or Read Lately (BSIHORL) is not a single sentence and it’s actually been quite awhile since I’ve heard it or read it anywhere. (Although it did become a somewhat popular reverberation in the wake of a certain president’s inauguration last year.)
This year, it’s really all about this. President Dwight D. Eisenhower tells it like it is:
If you want total security, go to prison. There you’re fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking… is freedom
It is a spectrum. The prisoner on the one end, who is told when to eat, when to sleep, when to wake up and when to take a shit. But the eats will be there. The cot will be there. The shitter will be there too…maybe right out in front of God & everybody, but hey you get used to not having any privacy.
On the other end is Grizzly Adams. Or any one of a thousand gold prospectors from 160 years ago. Or homeless dudes picking up tin cans for the pittance of cash they can spend on…whatever.
There are those who say it is not a continuum, but a circle. The prisoner is only protected from regular beat-downs from his fellow prisoners, or from the guards, on paper. He can have an “accident,” with no one missing him, just like Grizzly Adams can be eaten by something out in the middle of nowhere with no one knowing. The homeless guys? Ah gee, they shouldn’t have to pick up tin cans for their living, let’s give them a food bank — so they can stand in line waiting for a tray of utilitarian-grade food. That is served at a certain time. Just like…mmmm…the guy in prison who’s supposed to be at the opposite end of the continuum. Yes, these circle people. They do have a point.
And so did Ike.
