Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...
I like the angry shirt-and-tie guy. I’d say that’s your Internet version, right there. All snarky and angry, like Bill Bixby right before he turns into the Incredible Hulk…or…maybe more like Hawkeye Pierce or any one of a number of other “aggressively non-threatening NPR males.”
Why are you a democrat? Something to do with Halliburton? Or hope & change maybe?

Another slope shouldered metrosexual…could they come up with even one decent testicle between all of them.
- indyjones | 07/05/2011 @ 09:31Oh, this is spot-on. Nice job whoever created this.
- Jason | 07/05/2011 @ 09:38Now this … is great. 😉
- philmon | 07/05/2011 @ 10:46Indy, this guy is doing a great job mimicing the slope shouldered metrosexual. If you haven’t watched it, you really missed something. But first, you must watch the original College Democrats video to which this is a hilarious answer.
- philmon | 07/05/2011 @ 10:48You know, the fine line between parody and reality is more than a little blurred in this video.
- Physics Geek | 07/05/2011 @ 13:43I’m with Physics Geek. I’m beyond Physics Geek, in reality. Conservatives, with the NOTABLE exception of P.J. O’Rourke, suck at humor. The video was truthful but it was pretty damned lame in execution.
- bpenni | 07/06/2011 @ 09:16Think you might be in the minority on that one, for whatever it’s worth.
- mkfreeberg | 07/06/2011 @ 09:20He’s in the minority in a lot of things, Morgan. Especially around here.

Taste: it’s all in our mouths. I don’t like movies with lots of explosions in lieu of engaging plots, nor would I want to spend a weekend with Ann Coulter at Hedonism or someplace like it. I’m in the minority there, too. Around here. 😉
- bpenni | 07/07/2011 @ 12:48Well, I agree with you about the explosions, anyway. With some discretion involved. There are explosions that can be good, particularly the kind where they hold the camera still so you can see what’s happening…and when they’re half of the “tits and explosion” formula, it tends to be m-u-c-h better than, say, a New Moon movie. And some plots are so engaging they can start to go in the opposite direction.
But my main point is, the movie is clearly striking a chord with many others, myself included. This would not be the case if it didn’t bear some resemblance to truth. Which I think it does, particularly with the “George Bush makes me so mad” guy.
- mkfreeberg | 07/07/2011 @ 12:55…if it didn’t bear some resemblance to truth.
Let me reiterate: The video was truthful but it was pretty damned lame in execution. Execution, Morgan… execution. I focused on the medium portion of McLuhan’s “medium is the message” dictum, you just wanted Red Meat, no matter how poorly done. Which, I suppose is the general appeal of that skank Coulter, come to think on it.
- bpenni | 07/08/2011 @ 08:03“Poorly done” goes quite a bit beyond what you said previously. Poorly done, in what way?
Surely you’re not going to say the quality descends beneath the very lowest point of performance of Mr. Medium-Is-Message himself, Jon Stewart? Sometimes, some entirely valid humor points can be awarded just because the target of the lampooning has been out there, waiting to be lampooned, for awhile. The “Bush makes me so mad guy” is a phenomenon that doesn’t even pass the “try explaining it to your yet to be born distant grandchildren” test; we fail to see it as the insanity it is, only because we’ve lived next to it as it has slowly blossomed into full bloom. This is a valid use of humor, is it not? To point out the lunacy of the things that make sense to us only because we’ve succumbed to frog-in-boiling-water syndrome?
- mkfreeberg | 07/08/2011 @ 08:53Poorly done: belaboring the obvious; flogging the dead horse. Badly. There’s not a soul among us with beating conservative heart who, while watching the original “Why I’m a Democrat” asshattery, didn’t conjure a mental image of something like this piss poor parody (Alliteration Я Us). Only better.
Contrast this worthless exercise with that Debbie Downer vid. (Did you post that? I don’t remember.) DD works, this doesn’t.
- bpenni | 07/09/2011 @ 09:02Well…. I enjoyed it. Guess I’m easy to please. But that’s ok. Different strokes, and all.
This discussion is starting to remind me of this.
- philmon | 07/09/2011 @ 18:06Ah, them connoisseurs are ALL alike, ain’t they, Phil? Still and even, I like XKCD, liberal though he may be. 🙂
