Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...
…much of which, I note, is unchanged since Marx. In every single respect. Right down to the clichés. David Thompson:
Blah blah blah oppression blah blah blah solidarity blah blah blah classes. Each syllable essentially unchanged, even when they don’t fit anymore & haven’t fit for awhile — which is deftly illustrated by this little conversation at the end about the iPhone. The little tow-heads don’t even seem to realize they’re talking about textiles and farming. That’s Part I. Part II here, where they throw in some hatred of straight white men. “Destroy Masculinity!”
Well after a good century-plus something, I suppose it’s nice to have a little variety.

Ready for the really scary part?
The champions of socialism call themselves progressives, but they recommend a system which is characterized by rigid observance of routine and by a resistance to every kind of improvement. They call themselves liberals, but they are intent upon abolishing liberty. They call themselves democrats, but they yearn for dictatorship. They call themselves revolutionaries, but they want to make the government omnipotent. They promise the blessings of the Garden of Eden, but they plan to transform the world into a gigantic post office. Every man but one a subordinate clerk in a bureau.
Written by Ludwig von Mises…seven decades ago, no lie.

I’m far from the first person to say this, but it really IS striking how Marxism, and “Social Justice” generally, is just a bizarro world version of medieval Christianity. These people would be happiest as the village priest in some Dark Age backwater — the lone “educated” man in a mob of peasants, with the power to sniff out scandal (for your own good, of course) while living idly at public expense.
- Severian | 05/04/2015 @ 06:44The thing I am hearing about lately is Democratic Socialism. Very different from Communist Socialism don’t you see? “It will work this time. Honest.”
Right
- FrodoDLB | 05/04/2015 @ 08:45I think you give them too much credit, Severian. Being a Catholic Priest is a lot of work. Getting there, and doing the job. These sad clowns just can’t cope with Civilization at all. They want to return to the Tribe. All their goals, all their tactics show it. Note they are completely at a loss over Vox Day. They “kicked him out of the tribe”, and he’s still here! They have said in print, they don’t know what more they can do……
- Robert Mitchell Jr. | 05/04/2015 @ 08:46Right. And no disrespect to the Church. Let’s go with “tribal shaman”… in one of those tribes where all the shaman does is smoke peyote.
- Severian | 05/04/2015 @ 14:04Oh, no disrespect to the Church. The Church won against so many of those “tribal shamans” because the priests brought logic and ethics to the fight, while the shaman smoked peyote…..
- Robert Mitchell Jr. | 05/04/2015 @ 16:01They CALL themselves Democrats….but…you know….Proposition 8.
- CaptDMO | 05/05/2015 @ 16:25OWS? I call them” Owies,” Like when you hit your head on a low hanging tree branch, or skin their knees on the asphalt, trading blow jobs for food at ‘occupation” camps.
Oh and Bloodshed. Don’t forget the bloodshed required to get to “Eden”.
- Ponderosa | 05/05/2015 @ 19:50We have a democratic republic. It can not work unless a large enough percentage of the voters care enough to study the problems and then pick a solution that at least addresses the problem.
We are still at the position where no one wants to grasp the bull by the horns. We know the first ones to truly stand up will be cut down, and most of us have not yet shown enough love of our country to stand up.
The shock forces the left is counting on in the future struggles is essentially a weak and ineffective force. To state it plainly, barbarians cannot stand once the citizens take the field. A dozen citizens organized together in a squad will out number hundreds of barbarians.
It will not be a civil war of one portion of the nation against another. It will come much closer to some neighborhoods against others. Another way of looking at it might consist of those who are able to recognize reality and plan for the future against those who are only able to think of today (or this week) and think of loot as a creditable response.
This is not so much capitalism against socialism, or right against left as it is an argument between authority from the top (government, or the self appointed anointed elites) and authority from the bottom (individual freedom). Individual freedom does not work without the rule of law.
Citizens are able to accept reasonable restrictions for the common good while barbarians are unwilling to accept any argument other than force.
Who should make the stand? I suggest that post trauma our nation will need people able to plan and do physical work. The ability to work will be as important to survival as the ability to stand up for our rights. That portion of the “old, the lame, and the gray” who are no longer able to put in long hours at physical labor when it is necessary should be the ones in the front lines.
We will need the dads and the moms to do the work and protect the children. Grandpas, yes and grandmas too, and great grandpas should form the thin line to protect civilization and the future. Existing trained military forces will be needed as the mobile reserve instead of the forefront.
Those who serve, by doing the planning and physical work are the future. On the other hand, “those who do not work, neither shall they eat”.
