Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...
Oh my…this is after backing up, what, I’ve lost count I think. One desktop, four laptops, and some movies & television episodes I happen to like.
After spending a day on that, look at all the lovely purple that’s still there.
Think we can get used to this…

Heh. And to think I paid 300 Yankee Dollars for a ten MEGA-byte hard drive for my XT back in the day.

I’m a little bit piqued about the whole 10^12 thing. Turns out it is exactly that…down to the byte almost…un-formatted. I think of “terabyte” as 2^40. So you lose some that you never really had in the first place due to these mathematical contortions…then you format it (actually, it arrives that way, you only need to reformat if you have a Mac)…set aside some space for the software, and you are left with 2.7TB before you write anything.
But the price is right, and I had to do something. Had a nice slick thumb-drive backup system for my smaller, frequently revised documents, but my pictures & movies were just sitting there waiting for one minor disk disaster to carry them into the land of maybe-you-imagined-it. Four thousand jpegs of trips full of happy memories, means I couldn’t let that continue.
- mkfreeberg | 01/13/2011 @ 16:36Hey Buck, you remember these?
They were WAY north of 300 smackers, back in the day. Looking at low teens for the 10 model. Of course you got a whole computer for that.
What people don’t remember about these things is that when you threw the power switch, half a second later you were looking at a prompt. And most of that was waiting for the screen to warm up. I’ve occasionally flirted with a fantasy about investing in a “writing tool” like this for just this reason…but it ceases to be practical for other reasons, like what’s your replacement plan for the power supply, how do you get the data off of it, et al. But I do miss flipping a power switch and being able to get going instantly, that was a sweet deal.
- mkfreeberg | 01/13/2011 @ 16:51Hey Buck, you remember these?
Nope. Before my time. I didn’t get into the IT biz until ’85. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one, to be frank. I DO remember Compaq luggables, tho.
