Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...
Ann Barnhardt, in On Vomiting and Crazy Eyes, 12/19/11-2116 MST, hat tip to Gerard:
If you asked me who I would rather have a conversation with: an atheist or a “my truth your truth bullshit” pseudo-Christian, I’d take the atheist, without hesitation every time. You can have a productive, informative conversation with an atheist. An atheist actually believes something. He has a premise, and he believes in his premise, and is probably able to defend his premise in a rational way. In other words, there’s some meat on those bones.
In contrast, the “my truth your truth bullshit” (MTYTB) pseudo-Christian is a vapid, inane empty shell. The lights are on, but Dude, NOBODY’S HOME. To wit, Oprah Winfrey…The Truth just IS. It EXISTS. IT IS WHAT IT IS, or to quote God Himself speaking to Moses in Exodus 3:14, I AM WHO AM. 1+1 equaled 2 from all eternity, and 1+1 equaled 2 before any human being had yet pondered the question, and 1+1 will continue to equal 2 forever. Even if every person falls into some mathematical stupor or heresy and collectively become convinced that 1+1=5, 1+1 will still equal 2. That will never, ever change.
The Truth is a PERSON, more personal and more real than you or me. His name is Jesus Christ. What the MTYTB pseudo-Christians are actually doing is denying the existence of God and instead setting themselves up as “god” because they cast themselves as the arbiter and standard of “truth”. Hence, “my truth”. What utter, abject evil. Even the atheist does not do this. The atheist still maintains that there is an exterior truth to himself, and that the truth is that there is no God. The atheist is WRONG, but at least he doesn’t deify himself and still acknowledges that there is an external, referential matrix.
That’s part one. In part two…
Pick your side, but spare me, and more particularly, spare Christ this “my truth your truth” pantheistic Oprah Winfrey slackjawed bullshit…
:
If a culture subscribes to the “my truth your truth” line, then what inevitably happens is that the people who have the coercive power in a society begin to impose “their truth” upon everyone else. In other words, whoever has the guns and the power to imprison becomes “god” and sets the standard of “truth” in a society. We are watching this happen right now before our very eyes. The Obama regime is telling Catholics that they WILL provide contraceptives and abortions because these things are “rights” according to “their truth”. They are also telling Catholics that they WILL place adoptive children with homosexuals, and very soon they will also demand that Catholic priests marry homosexuals, because homosexuality is “normal” according to “their truth”, and they have the power to destroy people via the IRS and other governmental bureaucracies, so therefore “their truth” wins. They are telling the MF Global customers that the expectation of respect of property rights and the enforcement of contract law is unreasonable and that confiscation and theft of property by their cronies is now permitted according to “their truth”.These psychopaths will go to any lengths, any extreme, to deny an external standard of truth, because as long as they can delude themselves and their followers into believing that lie, they set the rules, and the world and everything in it is theirs for the taking.
THIS is why Christ said that he would VOMIT the lukewarm out of His mouth, because the “my truth your truth” bullshit leads directly to hell, even though it promises to deliver a “tolerant, ecumenical utopia.” When a society falls to that evil philosophy and no one will stand and fight with “crazy eyes” for the Truth, then people will suffer and die by the millions. The ecumenical utopia you are waiting for can never and will never exist because, unlike you, the forces of evil actually believe in their satanic philosophy with a burning passion and thus will never, ever compromise or rest until they either fully infiltrate and take over or are utterly defeated. There is no third way.
And that’s why…
If everyone with a couple brain cells to rub together is capable of manufacturing truth from within, then what we’re left with is a dogma custom-built for the personality that cannot admit it’s ever wrong about anything. No conflict ever arises to confront it, because nothing in the entire universe can be measured.
What sort of personality is attracted to such a dogma? Not, contrary to appearances and rhetoric, the sort that finds compromise attractive or appealing. This is the crazy-eyed personality that wants to get to the fun part, and skip past the parts that are too boring…you know, the part where it wins, and anybody who disagrees, loses.

I have never in my life understood this “my truth, your truth” thing.
It’s just so self-evidently self-contradictory — you’re asserting as a grand, all-encompassing, universally-valid, capital-T truth that there’s no such thing as a grand, all-encompassing, universally-valid, capital-T truth.
See, this is why I sucked at college: I wasn’t smart enough to do math, and all the humanities were mired in Po-Mo crap like the above. I shoulda just majored in weed like my freshman roommate.

Truth is what it is, and it exists independent of perception or comprehension. There is an objective reality that exists (or doesn’t exist) regardless of sincerity, motives, understanding, or opinion. Think about it: the guy who does hallucinogenic drugs, and sees and hears pink elephants, soda cans that breathe, etc. Those things don’t exist or act as he perceives, and no serious person would think those things existed just because the guy says they do while he’s high on PCP or whatever.
I’m suddenly reminded of judges who find “rights” that don’t exist in the Constitution, while ignoring rights that *do* exist…
- cylarz | 12/21/2011 @ 15:55I sent a letter to “Ann” who wrote the articles you’re referencing. I did not see a space on her blog for comments, so I emailed her instead. I also thought I’d share my comments:
———————————-
Dear Ann:
I would have preferred to post this on your blog’s comment section so I could discuss the topic with you and your other readers in public, but I did not see a space on your site for feedback.
You’re absolutely right when you point out that truth is objective, and this sort of namby-pamby “my truth, your truth” stuff that Western civilization is increasingly engaged in, has got to go. As the old saying goes, “If you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything.” I think this is one of the reasons we’re seeing the cultural and physical decline of the western world in modern times. We’re being eaten alive by Islam, which does not apologize for itself or make compromises on what it believes. (I am speaking philosophically; this is over and above the adherents who believe their religion justifies violence. We were like this “back in the day”; while our faith has always spread through the Spirit and not the sword, our forebears in the mission field didn’t compromise or water-down what they believed, nor did they go through life worrying about offending those who rejected our message.
Your article has actually deepened my understanding of what Christ meant when He talked about spitting out the lukewarm, or about who the lukewarm among us really are. I do recall the Apostle Paul writing about the danger of having a “dead” faith, which he said was worse than no faith at all…or that the lukewarm among us were even worse than the cold.
I do have a couple of suggestions for you, which you can take or leave:
– I think you should purge the profanity from your article. It distracts from the message you’re trying to get across. It may cause some to ask, “I thought Christians didn’t talk like that…?”
– I understand and appreciate your frustration with mealy-mouthed, offense-phobic, salad-bar Christians. They do more harm than good to the Kingdom. We can point out where they’re wrong, and where the atheist is wrong, but both groups may be beyond redemption, at least as far as oral and written arguments are concerned.
Please be sure, however, that the Truth is always delivered with love. Remember, as believers, we’re trying to tell the world that God sent His only Son to die for them because He loves them. If all God cared about was truth and not love, it would have been easy enough for Him to simply stick with what He’d already done from Heaven in the Old Testament times and never send Jesus to us. We can and must judge acts, words, and philosophies, but never people.
We also must remember to perform service to the world, even to those who deny God altogether or have backward ideas about Him. Remember – while we were still sinners and living in darkness, Christ died for us. Sometimes people who won’t listen to reason, are eventually brought over to Jesus by those who insisted on being kind to them anyway.
Great blog, and keep up the good work. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
