Alarming News: I like Morgan Freeberg. A lot.
American Digest: And I like this from "The Blog That Nobody Reads", because it is -- mostly -- about me. What can I say? I'm on an ego trip today. It won't last.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: We were following a trackback and thinking "hmmm... this is a bloody excellent post!", and then we realized that it was just part III of, well, three...Damn. I wish I'd written those.
Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler: ...I just remembered that I found a new blog a short while ago, House of Eratosthenes, that I really like. I like his common sense approach and his curiosity when it comes to why people believe what they believe rather than just what they believe.
Brutally Honest: Morgan Freeberg is brilliant.
Dr. Melissa Clouthier: Morgan Freeberg at House of Eratosthenes (pftthats a mouthful) honors big boned women in skimpy clothing. The picture there is priceless--keep scrolling down.
Exile in Portales: Via Gerard: Morgan Freeberg, a guy with a lot to say. And he speaks The Truth...and it's fascinating stuff. Worth a read, or three. Or six.
Just Muttering: Two nice pieces at House of Eratosthenes, one about a perhaps unintended effect of the Enron mess, and one on the Gore-y environ-movie.
Mein Blogovault: Make "the Blog that No One Reads" one of your daily reads.
The Virginian: I know this post will offend some people, but the author makes some good points.
Poetic Justice: Cletus! Ah gots a laiv one fer yew...
This is the spirit of what they’re all saying; the wording changes somewhat from one walk-through to the next, but it all boils down to this.
“Okay what we have to do is raise taxes on the rich. And then we keep doing it, over and over again, until there aren’t any rich people anymore. Now, after we’ve gotten rid of all the rich people, we, uh…that is, the next step is, er…um…gah! This is no fun! When do I get to say some bad things about conservatives and Republicans??”

I find Liberals do not understand that markets are not static. They believe that given the present numbers, they can increase taxes on the top 1% and all will be well. This is nonsense on stilts but even if it were true, that does not mean that everything will remain static if you increase those taxes.
Capital flight is a real possibility. Maryland tried a millionaire tax and suddenly found they had fewer millionaires and lower treasury receipts.
Taxes and regulations are a drag on the economy. They don’t like that idea so it cannot possibly be true. Same with minimum wage jobs. They don’t cause unemployment somehow.
I once asked where we were going to get the money to pay for the stimulus package. I was told, in all seriousness, “from the US Treasury”.
There is also an idea in vogue that any money that is saved or invested by “rich” people has been sucked out of the economy. My attempts to explain fractional reserves, lending were fruitless. Likewise I am unable to explain that investments mean more capital for businesses to expand, grow and hire.
I have come to the conclusion that the reason we cannot even argue with each other is that they are operating with not just different opinions but entirely different “facts”.
- Duffy | 08/16/2011 @ 08:39See I don’t think they deal with facts at all, the way normal people deal with them — that is to say, they go through it backwards, starting with the opinions and then from those figuring out which facts count and which facts don’t. You come back with your own facts…each and every single one entirely provable…the liberal goes and looks them up, they all check out. It still makes you stupid because the facts are “wrong.”
Over here I made the point that “greedy” is used often and defined only rarely, so I supplied my own definition of “lust for the unearned.” Libby comes back with — here are all the problems with defining “unearned.” Oh okay…so up until ten seconds ago we could spout off with multiple instances of a word that’s left undefined…with my nefarious motives & all, I start defining it, now we have a new implied rule in place that nothing can be defined until everything is? And the definitions have to work down to the micro-pixel level or else they’re no good.
See when you leave things undefined, it’s much easier. You just call people names.
